Arrowhead Outfitters invites you to join them on an exciting and affordable, fly-out self-guided Dall sheep hunt in Alaska’s arctic / northern Brooks Range.

Hunting Alaska’s beautiful awe inspiring and pristine, Brooks Range is an incredible experience and opportunity. Picture yourself stalking trophy Dall sheep in this remote and virtually, un-hunted mountainous paradise, where rams over 40” are harvested each year. On your adventure you will witness the beauty and wonder of the arctic tundra and will likely see other wildlife species including caribou, wolves, musk ox, fox, an a large variety of bird species including ptarmigan.

Be informed when choosing your air taxi service. Many other services fly larger aircraft that use the same landing locations repeatedly. These strips are generally far from your sheep destination and dotted with hunting camps. We on the other hand fly a 3 Passenger, M-6 Maule on tundra tires and floats with the capability of delivering you and your equipment to strategic hunting locations of your choosing, closer to the Sheep, in areas with little to no hunting pressure.

The cost of your hunt includes the flight to and from the drop off hunting location.

There are no hidden fees!

Type of Hunting

Hunting is primarily spot and stalk with rifle or bow over mountainous terrain and in grassy mountain basins. Hunting Dall sheep in the Brooks Range mountains is challenging. You need to be prepared to do some hiking and should prepare, physically for your hunt. The more fit you are, the more enjoyable your hunt will be.

*Ask about our trophy sheep/caribou combo or trophy sheep/moose combo

General Information for All Self-Guided Fly-out Hunts

Number of Hunters in Party: Unlimited, but typically 2-6.

Length of Stay: Unlimited but Typically 5-7 Days (Caribou), 7-10 days (Moose) and 7-10 days (Sheep). It is highly recommended that hunters allow ample time for their hunt and allow for weather days on either end of their hunt. Weather in the Arctic can be unpredictable at times and we will not fly in unsafe conditions.

Weight Limitation: 80 lbs per person including, camp equipment. You will be flying in a small aircraft with strict weight limitations so we ask that you keep mindful of this when preparing for your trip. Also, pack your gear, equipment in small, waterproof dry bags (not garbage bags), as these are much easier to transport in the plane. Suitcases, large duffle bags and hard gun cases, cases of soft drinks and other similar bulky and heavy items that exceed your weight limitations and our aircrafts carrying capacity, can be transported for additional cost. Do not bring Bear spray as FAA regulations do not permit us to carry this on board our aircraft.

Field Communication: There is limited to no cell phone coverage in most backcountry areas in Alaska and no cell phone coverage in the Southern Brooks Range, with the exception of Prudhoe Bay, which has some cell phone coverage. Prior to your hunt it is highly recommended that you rent and bring an IRIDIUM satellite phone (do not rent another brand, as it will not work). These phones are your best means of communication with our base camp and are a life saver if you have an emergency. IRIDUM satellite phones can be rented from a number of different Sat phone rental companies locally or on line and are fairly economical running from $50 to $90 per week.

Weather Conditions and Climate

Northern Brooks Range (July 25-August 27) Southern Brooks Range (September 1-25)
Weather conditions are generally good with temperatures, typically ranging from lows in the mid 30s to highs in the mid 70s. Later in the season, temperatures can be as low as 10 degrees and as high as 70 degrees.

Bugs: Black Flies and Mosquitoes are almost always prevalent in the Alaska backcountry and can be encountered during the spring summer and fall. Dryer years are less buggy We recommend hunters take ample supplies of bug spray, head nets, etc. to protect themselves from these pesky critters.

Arrival & Departure Information

Our trophy , Dall sheep hunts on the northern side of the Brooks Range, Alaska are conducted from our base camp located at Happy Valley airstrip, mile marker 334 of the Dalton Highway - approx 80 miles S of Prudhoe Bay on the west side of the Dalton Highway.

This is a great advantage because hunters drive the Dalton Highway from Fairbanks on well maintained roads, directly to our base camp and back again without incurring additional expenses and the hassles of commercial flights. Hunters will be flown in our 3 Passenger, M-6 Maule “Super Rocket” bush plane on tundra tires to their hunting destination.

Drop-off locations are on river bottoms, hill tops or other areas that offer the hunters best opportunity to harvest a trophy Dall sheep ram.
